Watch signs of civilization recede into the lunar-like landscape on the short drive to base camp. Meet your experienced guide, prepare for the adventure with a protective helmet, gloves, and warm overalls, and get up to speed on operation and safety instructions before beginning your ascent.

When you are ready, set off with your guide in a convoy and traverse the paved roads that wind through the open grasslands surrounding the city outskirts.

Turn off onto gravel tracks and make your way to the shores of Lake Hafravatn and admire the glassy surface framed by snow-capped peaks in the distance.

• Arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your tour
