Reykjavik: Folklore Walking Tour

Overview

Iceland is sometimes called the Land of the Sagas and on this walk, you'll have the chance to hear plenty of interesting tales involving the hidden people and creatures of Iceland.

During this 90-minute tour, learn all about Icelandic elves, trolls, ghosts, and unique aquatic monsters. There's also the 13 Santas (the Yule Lads) and the child-eating troll called Grýla, waiting for you to discover them.

You will also get an introduction to Icelandic magic and the runes of old. On the long winter nights in Iceland, storytelling was the primary entertainment for people so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Icelanders love books and have the highest literacy rate in the world. In fact, one in ten Icelanders write a book in their life! The country's storytelling history even influenced J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit! During the Reykjavik Folklore Walking Tour, you'll hear about some of the fun similarities between his magical worlds and Iceland's.
